FLEET 9 ANNUAL MEETING RECAP
On December 15th, we held our Fleet 9 Annual Meeting on Zoom, with 16 of 30 registered boats in attendance.
Fleet Captain John Burnham took us through a complete agenda reviewing the 2021 season and plans for 2022. Highlights included:
– Fleet growth up to 30 registered boat, with potentially 32 next season.
– Healthy financials were reported by Fleet Treasurer Ron Oard
– We received a preview of the 2022 Nationals by co-Chair Ted Slee
– We discussed the pros and cons of changing start times
– We reviewed course location options to avoid Newport Yacht Club fleet
– Our nominating committee reported that the slate for 2022 was the same as 2021. A unanimous vote confirmed their election.

2022 SUMMER WEEKEND SCHEDULE SET
All Aloha Series races are non-spinnaker, typically starting mid-afternoon. We expect to publish the Aloha Notice of Race soon. The other events listed below are spinnaker events with separate sailing instructions and entry processes. Please save these dates on your calendar now!

The Nationals return to Newport, hosted by Ida Lewis YC. The Notice of Race is posted and enthusiasm is building. Nine boats are already on the entry list, and we have a shot at the largest Nationals participation in decades. Make 2022 your year to be a part of history!

GET MEASURED – ARE YOU ON THE LIST?
Shields class by-laws require that boats must be re-measured every two years. Last season, we measured about half of the Fleet 9 boats. If you have not yet been measured, have questions about the process, or would like to help out; please contact Ron Oard, our acting Fleet Measurer.
